To Create Better World

The world’s first collaborative research and development program to reduce CO2 emission in my last article (here). This article focus on other two program having the similar aims which are GoodShipping and GoodFuels Programs.  Even though there are little differences between them, they have a common goal which is “creating a better world”. In order to develop a clear understanding, these two programs are going to be explained separately.

GoodShipping Program

Goodshipping, first of all, is quite significant since it is the world’s first global marine program. The main aims of this program might be listed as follows:

  • Changing the fuel used in maritime sector,
  • Decarbonizing the ocean freight,
  • Reducing the carbon emission,
  • Accelerating the energy transition.

In order to achieve this aim, the sustainable and second-generation biofuel oil is planned to be used within the scope of GoodShipping Program and this oil is obtained from forest residues and waste oil products. In other words, the purpose here is to create a better world by recycling.

GoodFuels

GoodFuels has also similar concern with GoodShipping program. Its objectives are also accelerating energy transition, reducing carbon emission, providing the usage of more sustainable fuels, realizing the climate goals within the frame of European climate targets. Its main difference from GoodShipping is while GoodFuels focuses on not only shipping industry but also heavy transport, GoodShipping concentrates only on shipping industry. On the other hand, their aims and even their motto – “Creating a Better World” are the same.

As known, marine or shipping industry causes a considerable amount of carbon emission; it is even 6th– highest sector emitting carbon to the atmosphere. And this is one of the significant threat for the nature. Therefore, the world needs more such a programs to assure its future. GoodShipping and GoodFuels are the successful and required programs; thus, these kinds of attempts should increase in every part of the world and every industry.

GoodFuel and GoodShipping Programs have many partners and also, they encourage many others to be part of their purposes. Their offers are quite reasonable as well since it is easy to join these programs and they enable to find out the best option for your company. The companies which have joined the GoodShipping Program recently, are CMA CGM, a French container shipping company, and Dutch Port of Rotterdam, the largest port in Europe. They have started to work together with IKEA Transport & Logistic Services and the GoodShipping Program in order to test sustainable marine biofuel oil. Their cooperation to create a better world is very valuable and crucial development. Elisabeth Munck af Rosenschöld who is head of sustainability at the IKEA Global Transport & Logistic Services says:

“……We have a responsibility to do our part to reduce the impact of our ocean freight…”

Then, let’s take a step and make our world more livable.
