The HySHIP Hydrogen Ship Demonstrator Project arranges to set up a zero-emission prototype vessel running on liquid green hydrogen which managed by global shipping firm Wilhelmsen. In this project focus to build up as an applicable maritime fuel option in Europe. When we look at the history before more than 200 years, Franscois Issac de Rivaz who is French inventor to be designed what is universally recognised as world’s first-ever internal combustion engine which babbled a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen.
Now, expanding numbers of climate campaigners, policymakers and industry experts accept that climate neutrality requires green or renewable hydrogen. It can be produced easily by way of the electrolysis of water or able to be replenished without emitting CO2. Also, it provides three times the energy of other fuels such as petrol diesel and jet fuel.
The International Council on Clean Transportation showed some important things in a recent study in which was found that 99% of the transpacific cruises designed in 2015 could have been used by hydrogen and fuel cells. An increasing number of them just small fuel volume changes or only one extra port of call to refill. Bart Biebuyck, executive director at FCH2 JU, said about the zero-emission model in part of the EU’s Horizon 2020 innovation initiative. A part of his speech that “Hydrogen and fuel cells have the possibility for achievement to propel vessels in a zero-emission fashion and different types of ship are starting to merge them.”
By 2050, the EU is planning to become carbon neutral which is based on a part of the community’s long term strategy. In this Hydrogen Ship Demonstrator Project, some details are fully electric and electric-hybrid ships in many countries, also in Norway, and the goal of a new plan focuses on building zero-emission model ships running on liquid green hydrogen. That will affect positively in the development of the shipping industry.
Hydrogen Ship Demonstrator Project will provide zero- emissions and manufactured vessels will bring hydrogen sourced from clean energy to coastal fuel bunkers between Stavanger and Kristiansund. The 14-strong HySHIP Union which is funded by €8m from Horizon 2020 that is driven by Norwegian shipping operator Wilhelmsen, and also includes Equinor and Strathclyde University in the UK. They supposed to make LH2 an attractive fuel option for ship effort in all part of Europe. The HySHIP associates hope that they will emerge a broad LH2 framework and financial ecosystem while discarding 25,000 trucks from the roads every year.
