What Is Shipyard?

The name of shipyard is given for the facility where ships are built and repaired. Mainly, the shipyards are to repair and construct of warships. For others, the terms of “dockyard” or “dock” are used for transport ships. For reaching convenience easily from shipyards, most of structures are located close by sea or river and even in sea or river. In addition to this, shipyard provides some technical and social features for construction and maintenance of the ship which has same type of length, and width. The depth of sea should be minimum 50 meters to supply these types of features.

 

Shipyards are divided by two. The former is military shipyards which are used for repairing and building warships. Second is special shipyards which are used for cargo ships, container ships, tanks and some carrier ships for instance; block carries, orel-bulk-oil carrier, barge carrying ships etc. Furthermore, shipyards have some significant parts for internal materials for examples; stowage places, cranes, cradles, docks, CNC machine (to cut), pre- construction materials, pipes and paint workshops. In order to manage construction and maintenance of ships without any interrupt, logistics amenities that are important to supply flow of also it takes in charge major tasks in shipyards. Moreover, in current shipyards, there is also a planning department that determines the order of work and the way of the work is done with the design department after designing the plans of the ships to be built. After the Second World War, floating docks started to be built. Floating docks have some features one of them it is characterized by moving and towing like a ship. Floating docks go diving by taking some water to docks cisterns, the ship, which needs to be repaired, enters to dock after that the hull of ship gets out of underwater and it rises again.
